I switched to a different Computer, downloaded controlcal v1.50 - entered my activation data and everything was fine. Then the Win 10 update orgy (anniversary update) started and now I end up with failed to load the game data - what can I do to resolve this?

Hi,

In Windows 10, make sure DirectPlay is enabled by checking Directplay manually. You can manually do so by (if you use Avast, you may have to disable Avast temporarily to enable it):

1. Right click Start
2. Click Programs and Features

or in the Windows 10 Search box, type: Programs and Features

3. Click Turn Windows features on or off
4. Make sure there is a check in Legacy Components
5. Click the + to expand
6. Check the box for DirectPlay

I have had 1 Windows 10 user (recently) where the above didn't work after the recent Windows 10 Anniversary Update..he had to re-install Windows.

I asked for update 2 days ago and his reply:

Hi Turbe,

Yes all sorted now. The last Windows update was somehow corrupted which affected quite a few programs including ControlCal. I reinstalled Windows and it now working OK again.

Regards

Thank you - I found another article regarding the error where stopping the printing queue was the solution - which for reasons I will not investigate further worked for me too

I just had this same error after purchasing and installing ControlCal (Personal Use) on my Windows 10 Home laptop (OS was just installed on a freshly formatted HDD drive).

I made sure Program and Features>Windows Features>Legacy>Direct Play box was checked. (It already was.)

Turbe advised to turn off the print spooler in Services, which I did and that fixed it. Software opened fine after that.

As I said, this was newly installed OS, and so I didn't even have any wired or wireless printers added or set up yet. Not sure if that would have made a difference before installing ControlCal.
